A CI/CD pipeline automates repeatable work and makes changes easier to review. Automation alone does not make a release safe; pipeline permissions, tests, approvals, and recovery steps matter.
Start with verification
Run formatting, tests, dependency checks, and a build when code changes. Make failures visible and keep logs useful without printing secrets.
Promote a known artifact
Build an identifiable artifact and promote it between environments where possible. Separate credentials by environment and restrict which identities can deploy.
Gate and validate releases
Use required reviews for sensitive changes, verify configuration, and check service health after deployment. Define in advance when to stop, roll back, or escalate.
Keep recovery practical
A rollback plan should say who acts, which version is restored, what data changes must be considered, and how recovery is verified. Test the plan in a non-production environment.
