Verify AI-Generated Information Before You Use It

Use a source ledger and claim-by-claim review to catch fabricated citations, missing context, and unsupported statements in AI-assisted drafts.

Part of Generative AI & AI Tools Course

AI-generated text can sound confident while containing an incorrect date, invented citation, or missing qualification. Before reusing a draft, separate the claims from the wording and verify the claims independently.

Make claims traceable

For each important factual statement, record the source title, publisher, date, and relevant passage. Open the source yourself and confirm it supports the specific claim. A citation produced by a model is only a lead until verified.

Check context and uncertainty

Look for missing exceptions, changed guidance, mismatched time periods, or a conclusion stronger than the available evidence. Correct, qualify, or remove unsupported wording. If the evidence is incomplete, state what remains unknown rather than hiding uncertainty.

Protect the material

Use public or approved sources and avoid sending confidential information to an unapproved tool. Follow applicable disclosure and editorial policies. Verification reduces avoidable errors but cannot guarantee that every issue has been found.
